Finished with his Cornetto trilogy, Edgar Wright is back for his latest, Baby Driver, which debuted its first trailer on the heels of its premiere at SXSW in Austin this week. An action flick guided to the tune of an explosive soundtrack, Ansel Elgort (Divergent; The Fault in the Stars) stars as Baby who is looking to get out of his short stint in crime after meeting the lovely Lily James (Cinderella; Pride and Prejudice and Zombies). Of course, he must do one last job before he can exit stage right.

From what I’ve come to understand, each action beat in the movie is in sync with each song picked by Wright himself. Baby Driver looks like the car chase movie to end all car chase movies. He’s a fine actor, but Elgort hasn’t done much to impress me in what I’ve seen him in. This looks like a role that will break him away from the pack of rising young male talent such as Dylan O’Brien and Miles Teller among others. Then there’s Lily James who I was thoroughly impressed by as Cinderella. As for the rest of the cast, I’m into it.

Although The World’s End didn’t do much for me, I trust Edgar Wright to make this good. His eye for action in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was impeccable and his quick whit for humor never ceases to amaze. Is it too much to ask for this movie to come out now? Please? I need this movie in my life now. Thanks.

Read up on the official plot synopsis for Baby Driver, courtesy of Sony Pictures:

A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Directed by Edgar Wright, Baby Driver stars Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Jon Bernthal, Eiza González, Jon Hamm, and Jamie Foxx. The film is set to debut August 11, 2017.
